Ups and downs

This was a weekend of ups and downs, both figuratively and literally.

On Saturday I took Shadoe to Busch Gardens for her birthday. We had so much fun! They've got some insane roller coasters there, and Shadoe was completely hard core about them. She was showing no sign of slowing down, even as I was trying my best not to throw up all over her shoes. Good times.

They have this cheesy "Africa" theme there, so we spent the whole day pretending to be on safari. She was like "The attention to detail in recreating this authentic African village is incredible, right down to the soft pretzel vendor and the Michelob on tap." Ha! Well, theme parks are so much better when there's beer involved. Take notes, Disney.

At the end of the day, we were both wiped out from all the authentic African adventure, and when I dropped her off, SHE KISSED ME! Okay, so it wasn't huge, and it wasn't on the lips, but it was a kiss! She kissed me on the forehead and told me that she had an amazing birthday. Go me! :-)

So I go home all happy, and what do I find there. The down side of the weekend. All the clocks in my apartment are blinking 12:00. I'm thinking "Okay, there was a power outage. No big deal." So I go around turning everything back on and resetting everything, and when I try to turn on the computer, nothing happens. It's completely dead. I don't know if the power supply got fried or what, but it's fucked. So it looks like I'm only posting from work for a while until I get it fixed. :-(

Cool!

Glad you took the best suggestion out of the bunch. Even gladder that she enjoyed it so much.

I went to Busch Gardens in Orlando a few years back and the best part was riding the Montu. It was my first inverted coaster and I must have ridden it 10 times by the end of the day: once from every possible position in the train. I can't remember if we took that safari or not... we might have. It was all a blur that week, since the Animal Kingdom just opened and we took that safari.

If you checked the outlet for power and it works, but you see no LEDs on the motherboard, then it sounds like it's your power supply. NewEgg has a 300W Enermax for 31.50 or a 350W Enermax for $52.00. I still have an Enermax from 3½ years ago and it's been running fine, through several lightning storms. I know Enermax isn't top of the line, but it costs significantly less than PC Power and Cooling, which is probably where my next main PSU will come from.

Good luck.

Yeah! That's the park we went to (Tampa, actually). The Montu was awesome. Though slightly less awesome with a gut full of beer. Ugh.

I tried a new power supply last night, and it didn't do anything. Completely dead. Any other ideas?

Yay for not puking! Congrats for being braver than I on such rides. Although with the right person as incentive, I might be able to deal with Busch Gardens-caliber coasters. But probably not. I'm presently trying to psyche myself up just to ride the "Cornball Express" at piddly Indiana Beach. Glad to hear you both had a great time.

And, not to freak you out too much, but I think what you found when you came home was an omen that you need to start considering the Shadoe lifestyle. >=) (You did unplug and plug back in the PC's power cord, right? The power buttons run through the motherboard these days, not directly to the power supply. I had one that needed to be physically detatched from power before it would turn on again after a surge one time. (Did somebody say SUUUUURGE?!)

Ha ha ha! I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a jerk. Just try to picture somebody admitting they're afraid to go on the "Cornball Express" and try not to laugh. ;-)

I tried replacing the whole power supply. I'm afraid the motherboard may have gotten fried. :-(

And the Shadoe lifestyle, hmmm. I think I could go without lights, and maybe even AC, but after a day without internet I'm starting to break out in hives.

No apologies needed. I know that I'm laughably wussy when it comes to amusement parks. =) And as I'm not out to impress any internet ladies, I don't mind admitting the fact. It simply means that between my fears and the hyena giggle, amusement parks are definitely not a plausible date location for me until way into a relationship. (I don't like to rush into the logfluming stage.)

And fear not losing the internet, for is this not the purpose of work? This is why you keep your day job (after a possible stint in the Peace Corps).

Yeah, I always freak out when I'm experiencing lack of internet access.
Like when the power in our house went out and we couldn't get it back on for a few days.
Or when the internet just mysteriously seemed to stop working.
In a month I'm going to a camp for four weeks (over night)...hopefully I'll be busy enough to be distracted from internet-withdrawl
